Loyalty Points

Loyalty Points are your own channel currency for your viewers. They collect points by watching and chatting, and you choose the name, symbol and earning rate. Menu: Community → Loyalty Points.

Overview of the page

At the top of the page you configure the points system (name, symbol, earning rate, command names). Every change is saved immediately, there is no save button. Below that is a table of every viewer who already has points, with their current balance.

How points are earned

By watching and chatting (automatic)

Every 5 minutes, the system checks which viewers have been active in chat within the last 10 minutes. These viewers automatically receive points once at least the configured interval has passed since their last point award.

Field What it does Default
Points per Interval How many points an active viewer gets per interval 10
Interval (minutes) How often a viewer can earn points (1 to 60 minutes) 5
Max per Day The maximum points a viewer can earn from automatic watching per calendar day. 0 = unlimited 0 (unlimited)

Important: this automatic awarding only runs while the points system above is set to Enabled. If it is disabled, viewers no longer receive automatic points, and watchtime tracking (see guide Watchtime) also stops, since both run through the same automatic process. Points viewers get through commands like giving, or that you grant manually, are not affected by this.

The "Max per Day" limit only applies to points automatically earned from watching. Points from giving, "give to all", manual edits, or minigames do not count against this daily limit.

Basic settings

Field What it does Default
Enabled Turns the entire points system (including chat commands) on or off on
Currency Name What the points are called in chat and on the page, e.g. "Points", "Coins", "Gems" Points
Currency Icon A symbol/emoji shown next to the balance ⭐

Command configuration

Here you decide which chat commands viewers use to interact with their points. The command name itself is freely chosen (without the leading "!", which gets added automatically); what it does stays the same.

Field What it does Default
Points Command Shows the viewer their own balance in chat points
Give Command Lets viewers give points to other viewers give
Enable Giveall Turns the command to distribute points to all active viewers on/off off
Giveall Command Name of the command to give to everyone giveall
Giveall Permission Who may use the giveall command: only you (broadcaster), or you and your moderators Broadcaster only

Next to the fields, the page shows a live preview of your current commands, e.g. !points · !top · !give @User <amount> · !giveall <amount>.

If a command name you chose is already used elsewhere in the dashboard (for example in an automation), a red warning appears below the field.

Chat commands for viewers

Command What it does Permission
!points (name can be changed) Shows the viewer's own point balance in chat everyone
!top (fixed, cannot be renamed) Shows the top 5 viewers by balance everyone
!give @User <amount> (name can be changed) Gives the named viewer points from your own balance everyone
!giveall <amount> (name can be changed) Distributes the given amount to every viewer active in the last 15 minutes depending on the setting: broadcaster only, or broadcaster + moderators
!addpoints @User <amount> or !addpoints all <amount> (fixed name, cannot be renamed) Grants points out of nothing, without anyone paying for them. all grants to every viewer active in the last 15 minutes broadcaster or moderators only

Examples:

  • !give @Lisa 500 gives Lisa 500 points from your own balance.
  • !giveall 100 distributes 100 points to every active viewer.
  • !addpoints @Lisa 1k gives Lisa 1,000 points without anyone paying for it.
  • !addpoints all 1.5k gives every active viewer 1,500 points.

Entering amounts

For amounts in chat commands (!give, !giveall, !addpoints), besides plain numbers you can also use shorthand forms:

Input Result
500 500
10k 10,000
1.5k 1,500
1m 1,000,000
10.000 or 10,000 10,000

Only the first word after the command is read as the amount. Invalid input (for example text with no number) is treated as 0, and the command then does nothing.

Self-giving is blocked: a viewer cannot give points to themselves with !give, the bot tells them so in chat.

If the balance is not enough, the bot reports this in chat (e.g. "Not enough points!").

Unknown viewer: if the target of !give or !addpoints is not found, that person must have written in chat at least once before the system knows them.

Linking accounts (only with several platforms)

If you stream to more than one platform (for example Twitch and TikTok), you can turn on the toggle Viewers may link their accounts (!link). A viewer who follows you on several platforms can then join their accounts using !link: the linked account's points move to the main account and count together from then on. !unlink removes the link again. This toggle is off by default and only visible if you actually have more than one platform connected.

The points table

The table shows every viewer with a points entry:

Column Meaning
# Rank sorted by balance
User Twitch name
Platforms (only visible with several platforms) Which platform this entry is tracked on
Balance (icon + currency name) Currently available points
Total Earned Every point this viewer has ever received, including already spent ones
Last Active When points were last credited

Filters: Has points (> 0) shows only viewers with a current balance, Top Earner (1000+) shows only viewers who have earned at least 1,000 points in total.

Editing and deleting entries

The action menu on each entry lets you:

  • Edit Points: manually set the balance and "Total Earned" to a new value. The difference from the previous balance is logged as a transaction of type "Manual correction".
  • Delete Entry: removes the viewer completely from the points system, including every stored transaction. This cannot be undone, you are asked to confirm first.

Adding an entry

Use Add Entry in the page header to manually add a viewer to the points system by hand, even if they have never written in chat, as long as their Twitch name exists. You enter the Twitch username, starting balance and "Total Earned". If an entry for that name already exists, nothing is added twice, you get a notice instead to change the existing entry using "Edit Points".

Managing data

The Data Management button in the page header gives you four tools:

  • StreamElements Import: takes over point balances from StreamElements. You enter your StreamElements channel name (usually your Twitch name), and optionally a JWT token (only needed for private channels, found at streamelements.com → My Account → Channels → API Tokens). The Overwrite existing points toggle decides whether existing entries get overwritten with the StreamElements values (off = only new viewers are added). This feature is only available if your channel runs on Twitch.
  • Import: uploads your own backup file (.json or .csv) and creates or updates entries from it.
  • Export: downloads all current point balances as a .json file, for backup or migration.

Relationship to watchtime and chat activity

Loyalty Points, watchtime (see guide Watchtime) and the chat leaderboard (see guide Chat Leaderboard) are closely related but kept as separate data:

  • Every chat message updates the "last seen" timestamp for watchtime, counts toward the leaderboard, and makes the viewer "active" for the next automatic point award.
  • The actual crediting of points and the increase of watchtime minutes only happens through the automatic 5-minute process, and only while the points system is enabled.
  • Viewers listed on the Bot Exclusions page are completely excluded from automatic point awards, watchtime tracking and the leaderboard. This prevents other bots in your chat from collecting points or watchtime.

A note on channel rewards

Points can also be awarded through your own automations, for example as a reward for specific events. You don't set that up here, but in the Automations guide; this page then simply shows the resulting point balance.

TikTok: planned and in progress.

FAQ

Why hasn't an active viewer received points yet? Automatic awarding only runs every 5 minutes, and only for viewers who have written in chat within the last 10 minutes. Also, at least the configured interval must have passed since their last award.

What's the difference between "Balance" and "Total Earned"? "Balance" is the amount currently available for the viewer to spend. "Total Earned" counts everything they have ever received, including points they already gave away or spent.

Can I rename the !top command? No, !top is fixed and cannot be renamed. Only the points command, give command and giveall command can be freely named.

Can I rename !addpoints? No, this command is always called !addpoints and is only meant for you and your moderators.

What happens to the points if I turn the system off? Nothing is lost. Existing balances stay, but no new points are awarded automatically and the chat commands stop responding.

I disabled the points system, and now watchtime isn't counting either. Is that a bug? No, that's intended: automatic watchtime tracking runs through the same background process as point awarding.

Can a viewer give points to themselves? No, !give targeting yourself is refused by the bot.
